SUMMARY:Invasive English Ivy Removal - February 3\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Thank you to all the volunteers who came to save over 100 trees from invasive English Ivy attack on December 9\, 2023 ! With such a successful result\, we decided to do it again. \nThis event is co-sponsored by Save Our Trees (https://saveourtreestogether.org/)\, Anne Arundel Weed Resistance (https://www.anne-arundel-weed-resistance.org/) and Cape Conservation Corps. \nAll are welcome from novices to experts. Newcomers will be taught to identify and remove invasive vines from trees.  Bring gardening gloves\, water\, sturdy boots or shoes\, and appropriate clothing (watch the weather forecast). Tools will be provided or you can bring your own. \nThe process involves cutting the flow of nutrients from the ground\, as shown in the top picture.  This way\, all vegetative growth\, seen in the picture at left\, will die off on its own.  This will not only allow the tree to regain its health\, but also prevent the ivy from making more seed (and more babies!)

DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday after work\, the Wednesday Weed Warriors meet to combat invasives in our improved areas.  These incude Burning Bush (picture above)\, English Ivy (picture below right)\, and Euonymus at the Little Magothy Beach\,  Bush Killer (picture below left) at the Serene Ravine\, and English Ivy at Deep Creek parking lot.  Contact President@CapeConservationCorps.org to be notified of the specific area on a particular day. \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Cape loves trees !  But… twigs constantly drop\, limbs and branches branches sometimes too.  And leaves all drop in the fall.  And unfortunately\, we have seen a few trees fall on our houses as well. \nBud Reaves\, Anne Arundel County Forester\, will discuss: \n\nGeneral Importance\, role and care of our mature trees in the community\nLaws and ordinances that govern protection or removal of trees\nKey issues right now\, including how to identify when a tree is a hazard and when it is not.\n\nDoors open at 6:30 PM; speaker starts at 7:00 PM. \nWater and snacks will be provided. \nDonations are gratefully accepted… Thank you !
