SUMMARY:Invasives Plant Swap and Spring Planting
DESCRIPTION:Invasive Plant Swap \nOnce again\, Cape Conservation Corps will encourage everyone to remove one invasive bush from their property and receive a free native bush to replace it.  This year\, we will offer only one free bush but it will be a more mature one\, a 3-gallon size instead of three 1-gallon size. \nInvasives we hope you will remove include: \n\nNandina domestica nandina\, heavenly bamboo\nBerberis known as barberry\nBuddleia davidii butterfly bush\nEuonymus alatus winged spindle\, or burning bush\nOr\, you may approach us with your selection\, and we will consider it.\n\nThe first 35 Cape residents signing up will be eligible for one of the following bushes: \n\nChoice 1: Viburnum Prunifolium\, Blackhawk\nBlackhawk is a multi stemmedshrub reaching 12’. The white blooms are attractive to butterflies and pollinators that give way to blue-black berries known as drupes which feed the birds throughout winter. This versatile shrub can do well in moist conditions but also can tolerate periods of drought (Picture of the blooms at top).\n\n\n\nChoice 2: Itea virginica\, Virginia Sweetspire\, “Henry’s garnet” \nItea virginica ‘Henry’s Garnet” sweetspire grows to 3-4’ with a 4’ spread. The white spires of blooms attract pollinators and butterflies. The fall foliage is a gorgeous burgundy foliage. It can thrive in sun to part shade and does well in average to moist soils. This versatile shrub does well as a foundation plant\, at a woodland edge and even as a groundcover!  (Picture of the falll colors here.) \n\n\n\nBushes will be available for pick-up at the Little Magothy Beach Park (across 1101 Little Magothy View). \nTo sign-up\, go to: \nhttps://forms.gle/LQVJY1QUbDoYxmiU8 \nSpring Planting \nOn the same day\, we will have a major spring planting (several hundred plants) also at the Little Magothy Beach Park.  All hands on deck !  Join us and help establish all these plants to continue the beautification of this lovely spot !  We will have two shifts from 9 to 11 AM and 1 PM to 3 PM so pick a time that works for you \nTo sign up and select a shift\, go to: \nhttps://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0D49AAAC22A57-48802760-spring \n
