March 21, 2023Pruning Tips
March 21, 2023A willow oak on the property of Brad and Marsha Knopf on Magothy Park Lane measures 42 in. dia., height of over 100 ft and a 132 in circumference. Big willow oaks are common in Maryland and the State champion is also in AA County. It measures in at 267 inch in circumference, so the Cape Champion still has more growing to do! Willow oak acorns are a top food for whitetail deer, squirrels, turkeys, and some songbirds. Wood ducks and mallards also eat the acorns that wash into flooded areas.
