Invasive Plant Swap
Once again, Cape Conservation Corps will encourage everyone to remove one invasive bush from their property and receive a free native bush to replace it. This year, we will offer only one free bush but it will be a more mature one, a 3-gallon size instead of three 1-gallon size.
Invasives we hope you will remove include:
The first 35 Cape residents signing up will be eligible for one of the following bushes:
Choice 2: Itea virginica, Virginia Sweetspire, “Henry’s garnet”
Itea virginica ‘Henry’s Garnet” sweetspire grows to 3-4’ with a 4’ spread. The white spires of blooms attract pollinators and butterflies. The fall foliage is a gorgeous burgundy foliage. It can thrive in sun to part shade and does well in average to moist soils. This versatile shrub does well as a foundation plant, at a woodland edge and even as a groundcover! Bushes will be available for pick-up at the Little Magothy Beach Park (across 1101 Little Magothy View).
