Our Annual FALL NATIVE PLANT FEST AND SALE in September, and there are so many reasons why we should be planting native plants as they offer numerous benefits for both the environment and local communities. Here are the top five reasons to consider:
1. Biodiversity Support: Native plants provide essential habitat and food for local wildlife, including birds, insects, and other animals. They help maintain the ecosystem’s balance and promote biodiversity.
2. Soil Health: Native plants are adapted to the local soil conditions and climate, which means they usually require less fertilizer and pesticides. Their deep root systems improve soil structure, prevent erosion, and enhance water retention.
3. Water Conservation: Native plants are generally drought-resistant and require less water compared to non-native species. This makes them ideal for sustainable landscaping, especially in areas prone to drought.
4. Low Maintenance: Once established, native plants typically require less maintenance than non-native species. They are more resistant to pests and diseases and can thrive without extensive care.
5. Cultural Significance: Many native plants hold historical and cultural importance for local communities, representing a connection to the land and its heritage. Planting them can help preserve these cultural values.
Incorporating native plants into gardens and landscapes is a powerful way to support environmental health and sustainability!
We will have many of our tried-and-true favorites from past years and a few new species or varieties. Check out the Spigelia marilandica (Indian Pink) ‘Rajin Cajun’! This beauty will bring in the hummingbirds and many pollinators.
We will have milkweed, goldenrod and aster for the monarch’s lifecycle. There will be many beautiful sedges for shade, including Carex woodii (Wood’s sedge) and Carex rosea (Rosy sedge) that are new this year. Our shrubs this year will include American Beautyberry, New Jersey Tea, Witch Hazel, Oakleaf hydrangea, St. John’s Wort, and Sweetspire. We will have a wide variety of grasses, ferns, perennials, and groundcovers as well!

Our prices are SUPER LOW and the quality is HIGH! We will have experts on hand from Watershed Stewards, Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, Wild ONES local chapter, and local garden designers that live and work in the community.
